12:06 < Susannah_RIPENCC> Hello. Welcome to the 11am Plenary session. My name is Susannah from the RIPE NCC. I will be monitoring chat during this session. If you have a question or comment, I can read it out for you. Please make your questions as clear as possible. I will read out any questions when the speaker asks for questions at the end of his/her presentation. Please note that all chat transcripts will be archived and made available to the public on https://
12:06 < Susannah_RIPENCC> Gert Doering has started the session
12:07 < dotwaffle> wm: it's being transcribed in Ireland I believe...
12:07 < Susannah_RIPENCC> @dotwaffle: it's being transcribed here in the room but the stenographers are from Ireland
12:08 < dotwaffle> Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for the clarification.

12:11 < Susannah_RIPENCC> @WM" we've been using the same stenographers for several meetings now so they are quite experienced with wide array of speakers :)

12:15 < wm> What internet uplink does the AS used for the meeting have? Like 1G? Why dont you use a normal uplink (GARR or SDSL) and stream over Ripe servers in NL rather than over expensive Italian uplinks?
12:15 < MatH> Colt donated the links?
12:15 -!- foobar [~7d1 [at] rosie [dot] ipv6 [dot] ripemtg [dot] ripe [dot] net] has joined #plenary
12:15 < erik_RIPENCC> wm, the streamer for the webcast is already in our offices in amsterdam
12:16 < Ben_RIPENCC> @wm: we have 2 links from colt, 1x1gbps and 1x100mbps as a backup
12:16 < Ben_RIPENCC> with bgp to GARR and backup to INROMA

12:18 < Ben_RIPENCC> we build out our own network as atendees tend to demand a quality connection that never goes down ;-)
12:18 < Ben_RIPENCC> so nice to have it al under our control
12:19 < erik_RIPENCC> the current peak uplink traffic is about 50mbit, so we do need quite a bit of bandwith (see https://stats.ripemtg.ripe.net/ )

13:13 < Susannah_RIPENCC> There is a fee to attend the meeting. Participating remotely is free.
13:14 < wm> depending on the distance the meeting fee is not really the highest cost for some people i think
13:15 < mneylon> the meeting fee isn't that much tbh
13:15 < will-h> the bulk of the cost is hotel

13:16 < mneylon> depends on the hotel :) I'm paying less than 500 euro for 6 nights
13:16 < keith-1280> the meeting hotel is a ridiculous price
13:16 < wm> still much for italy imo

13:25 < shane> We have staff in the US, Canada, and Europe. And someone stuck in Japan.
13:25 < wm> "stuck" lol
13:26 < will-h> i refuse to pay the 22eur a day for the wifi in my hotel
13:26 < shane> We also have people in the UK, which you might or might not consider part of Europe. ;)

13:27 < shane> @Will: more expensive hotels tend to charge more for Internet access. And breakfast. And beer.

13:27 < Susannah_RIPENCC> Are there any questions for Nicolas?
13:27 < jelte> so for us most problems are us visas, but it seems it's getting much more difficult in general around the world
13:28 < Susannah_RIPENCC> @shane/Will Internet access *only* 16 Eur in meeting hotel :)
13:28 < jelte> shane: is that not the definition of 'more expensive'?
13:28 < will-h> wm: i'm not here to spend time in my room anyway
13:28 < Susannah_RIPENCC> Will said his was 22!
13:28 < keith-1280> anyone found any handy sources of prepay SIMs ?
13:28 < will-h> yes, it was - cheaper hotel tho
13:29 < will-h> keith-1280: yeah there are shops, but you have to show ID
13:29 < wm> yes
13:29 < wm> and a street address in italy
13:29 < will-h> down twoards termini i believe
13:29 < Ben_RIPENCC> @keith...possible not able to get them here...you need to register with id and all sorts of crazyness
13:29 < Susannah_RIPENCC> Nicolas has finished his presentation
13:29 < will-h> i can make one of those up
13:29 < keith-1280> ffs
13:29 < Susannah_RIPENCC> There is an extra talk now by Lorenzo Colitti
13:29 < keith-1280> that's worse than the US :-(
13:29 < Susannah_RIPENCC> from Google
13:29 < shane> Intuitively I would think a hotel that charges €250 a night would not *also* need to charge €20 for Internet access.
13:30 < Susannah_RIPENCC> :)
13:30 < wm> haha wait until you were in germany keith-1280, they want your ID at buying, address at buying, and then you need to activate it with an valid address over phone
13:30 < will-h> no
13:30 < will-h> i bought 5 sim cards in germany
13:30 < will-h> for 10eur
13:30 < jelte> hmm perhaps lorenzo is the one to ask why android tethering does not do ipv6

13:32 < keith-1280> re talk: we're implementing a AAAA-ilter option in BIND as one solution to this
13:32 < keith-1280> AAAA-filter
13:32 < wtremmel> so, what are these MACs he does not want us to look at?
